Finalists for the 2018 All African Business Leaders Awards – East Africa edition set to be announced

The East African finalists for the 2018 All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA), in partnership with CNBC Africa, will be announced on September 13, 2018, at a regional black-tie gala dinner function in Nairobi, after the completion of a rigorous selection process.

The 8th annual awards ceremony will honour business excellence and leaders who have made a considerable impact on their industry and community. The team of judges, led by Dr Bitange Ndemo, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration and Professor in Entrepreneurship at the University of Nairobi, have evaluated hundreds of applications, narrowing down to the nominees in the categories of Business Leader of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Business Woman of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Company of the Year Presented by Hollard, Industrialist of the Year Presented by the IDC, Young Business Leader of the Year Presented by Lancaster University, Philanthropist of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Speaking on the selection process, Dr. Ndemo said their guiding principle was selecting individuals who have showcased remarkable leadership traits, employed innovative strategies in their operations, demonstrated that they are the game changers of business in East Africa, as well as their continued commitment to excellence.

The nominees from East Africa will battle it out with others from West Africa and Southern Africa, to bag top honours at the continental showpiece in South Africa, in November.

Past East African business leaders who have received accolades from the All African Business Leaders Awards are Equity Bank Chief Executive Officer, James Mwangi; Centum Group CEO, James Mworia and Kenya Commercial Bank Group CEO, Joshua Oigara, as Business Leader of the Year.

Completing the list of judges working with Dr. Ndemo are Dr. XN Iraki, senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi; Kamanga Wilbert Kapinga, Managing Partner at KW Kapinga & Partners; Caroline Mugo, Executive Director & Financial Controller Cargill Kenya.
