Change of Guard at Old Mutual Kenya

Peter Mwangi will now manage the Kenyan business, formerly held by Reuben Java. Java moves to Old Mutual Life Business in Zimbabwe

Old Mutual Kenya has made top level management changes as part of the group’s realignment to better serve its expansion strategy.

The group has appointed Peter King’ori Mwangi as the new Group Chief Executive Officer effective October 2014, to take over from Reuben Java, who has been re-assigned to head the Life Business at Old Mutual Zimbabwe.

“This is among several initiatives that support the Group’s intentions to focus on East and West Africa as it’s core growth markets,” said Tavaziva Madzinga, the Old Mutual Africa Chief operating Officer.

Until his appointment, Mr. Mwangi was the CEO and Managing Director of Nairobi
Securities Exchange, a post he relinquished early last week.

He earlier worked as the Managing Director of Centum Investment Company and holds a BSc (Electrical Engineering), CPA (K), CPS (K) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Mr. Mwangi is an experienced leader with a proven track record of steering companies to deliver market led solutions for customers, having served across various
East African companies at both Director and board levels.

With the Group’s focus on growing in East Africa, and Kenya in particular,
Mr Mwangi is expected to guide the delivery of Old Mutual’s commitment to provide affordable insurance and banking solutions to millions of Kenyans.
