Nairobi, Kenya, Mar 25-The Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla has reiterated the need for security agencies taking part in the ongoing security operation in the North Rift to engage locals to win the fight against bandits.
Lt-Gen Ogolla said Friday when he visited troops operating under ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu’ that collaboration with local residents is critical as they have key information about the region and the criminal gangs who continue to wreak havoc in the region.
His visit was aimed at boosting the morale of security agents who are currently engaging in an operation to pacify the region that has suffered decades of conflicts.
“We need the goodwill of the people. It is very substantial to engage the locals and NGAO officers as they remain very informative to our security agencies. We remain objective, and we are not backing down until our mission is achieved,” he said.
During his visit, Lt-Gen Ogolla engaged with officers stationed at the Chemolingot Command Center in Baringo County, Chesitet, and Pura Multi agency camp in Samburu County.
In his address to the troops, the VCDF lauded them for their diligence in combating banditry and ensuring sustainable peace and security in the six counties declared as disturbed.
He encouraged the troops to remain focused and vigilant while taking part in the operation.
He assured the troops of full support from the Defence headquarters to deter and defeat threats to security in the North Rift.
Present during the visit were the Rift-valley Region Police Commander Tom Odero and the operation’s Commander Brigadier Ahmed Saman, among other senior officers.
