The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has imposed heavy sanctions on AFC Leopards following crowd trouble during Monday’s aborted GOtv Shield semi-final match against Sofapaka at City Stadium.
In a statement yesterday, FKF said that the club will play their remaining matches of the 2014 season in an empty stadium and compensate the home team for loss of revenue.
“The club has also been fined Sh500,000 payable within seven days,” said the FKF statement.
“Leopards must also identify their scouts who were responsible for assaulting the match officials. Arising from the abandonment, the match has been awarded to Sofapaka and AFC Leopards forfeit the third and fourth play-off in the GOtv Shield together with any benefits they were to get,” added the statement.
The federation has also blamed security men who were deployed during the match for being slow in containing the situation and for excessive use of tear gas within the stadium that led to a stampede.
