National Bank signs deal to offer Agency banking for Postal Corporation of Kenya

National Bank will offer agent banking services for state owned Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK).

The move, apart from widening the banks distribution network in Kenya, will provide the institution’s customers access to PCK’s 99 branches and 800 Mashinani Agents.

Managing Director Munir Sheikh Ahmed said the partnership ties in with the bank’s growth strategy to make the institution a tier 1 bank by 2017.

“The partnership we have signed today will provide easy and convenient access to unlimited agent banking services to National Bank’s customers and thereby, boost our presence countrywide,” Mr. Munir said.

Services rendered in the deal include cash deposits and withdrawals of up to KES 1mn, obtaining mini statements, making balance inquiries, school fees as well as utility bill payments.

PCK’s Postmaster General, Enock Kinara, said the company, which plays a very crucial role in the provision of financial services to the unbanked population is now leveraging on technology and innovation to add a value proposition to their customers.

“This partnership is strategic as it will allow National bank customers’ easy access to banking services in areas where the bank has not set base but are already served by our robust and extensive network countrywide, therefore overcoming proximity challenges,” said Mr. Kinara.

The PCK partnership is one among several being brokered by the bank. Others strategic partnerships involve Kenswitch, a payments switch provider, which gives National Bank customers access to 1,200 Kenswitch’s ATMs services in East and Central Africa.

The deal with PCK increases the bank cash access points in the region to 74 branches, 1,539 agents, and 1325 ATMS.
